Our Technical Experience & Standards

Our structural design process ranges from static check of members for simple systems, dynamic elasto-plastic using SDOF for simple beams with dynamic loading, to fully utilized finite element analysis for complex systems.

We have extensive experience with the design, calculation and testing of blast resistant facades, including GSA projects.

We have successfully completed many OSHPD & DSA Projects. For such Projects, the approval process usually goes through more stringent requirements. NS has extensive experience with OSHPD & DSA requirements and criteria as well as inspection and submittal processes. We are aware of the efforts that are required (and must be spent) upfront, so as to minimize delays in the approval process, which in turn will impact installation.

While indeterminate systems subjected to wind load is analyzed with a linear or non-linear static analysis, using elastic material properties. Systems subjected to blast loading utilize a FE model, with non-linear dynamic time-step analysis, using elastic/plastic material properties.

Even for high spans, wide modules, and perforated systems, where high deformation, torsional stability and anchorage stiffness govern the design, a FE model is constructed using a combination of linear beam members and non-linear plate sections, analyzed with fully dynamic procedure with approximated stress-strain curves.

In an effort to optimize the design and reduce the materials used, the stress-time history of a system will pin point where the maximum stress is, and will outline the highly localized stress portion where added stiffness will be required.
